Weird wireless problem

#1 Post by MarcW » Thu Sep 23, 2004 8:22 am

I got my 2373CWU last night and I'm having somewhat of a strange wireless problem. I'm using G only on my Linksys WRT54G with WPA-AES. I can see and connect to the access point using IBM Access Connection. The router is configured for DHCP and the laptop does get an IP. So far so good. Access Connections tells me I have excellent signal strength (around 92%) and a 54mb connection. I can ping my other machines on the network. Now, the issue is that when accessing the Internet it only works for just a few seconds. I can usually hit one or two websites but then I can't hit any other webpage after that. Access Connections still tells me that I have a excellent connection but I can't connect to anything on the net. I've only had about 30 minutes to play with things last night so I haven't tried using WEP instead or even no encryption at all. I'll do that tonight. Was just wondering if anyone might have an idea what the issue may be.

Also, I turned the SSID broadcast off in the router but Access Connections still displays my SSID. Any idea what that is about ? Does Access Connections cache the SSID ? Initially I had the broadcast turned on and used the 'Find Wireless Network' feature of Access Connections which worked fine. I then turned the broadcast off but Access Connections still displays the SSID.

Thanks,

MarcW

Looks like AES was the culprit. Changed to TKIP and it's now working like a charm.
