Is there any BIG DIFFERENCE between T43p and T60

#1 Post by draxyu » Sun Mar 11, 2007 6:28 pm

My T43p has PM770 + 2G ddr533 + 7K100 hdd + V3200

Comparing with T60 with T5500 + 2G ddr667 + 7k100 + 128M X1400, is there any big difference if no game play or graphic design?

Maybe in video encoding. my X60 is much faster that my Z60t because of the processor.

Yep. The big difference is Dual Core. A Core Duo or Core 2 Duo will smoke the Pentium M.

Cost would be a big difference as well.

I really love my T41P, but have decided to give it to the wife. I want a dual core laptop and I want a T series IBM. therefore my needs (linux) would be better served by a T60. Oh and I want one. Just to have, You know.
New:
Thinkpad T430s 8GB DDR3, 1600x900, 128GB + 250GB SSD's, etc.

ThinkPad Tablet 16GB 1838-22U
IBM Thinkpad X61T, T61, T43, X41T, T60, T41P, T42, T410, X301

If you have a t43 right now and are looking for a good reason to upgrade, I would stay put for a while until at least the next upgrade phase.

I seriously tax the performance of my computers, and I can barely tell the difference between a T60p and a T42p. In some ways, I like the T42p better - the lines, color accents, etc. If my T42p wasn't stolen, I would still be using it at my primary machine.

If you are buying new, need dual-core, PCI-Express in the dock, or ExpressCard, then the T60 is for you. If you need SVideo output or PCI in the dock, then you want a T4x.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

The video card is faster, but still very bland compared to some of nvidia's offerings.

You also need to take into account that not all apps utilize dual core. Matlab being one, so i wouldn't want the dual core processors, anyways i wouldn't.. the dothan pentium m has a TDP of 21W versus the 34W CD/C2D. utilizing both cores.

So, for daily use, they are almost same?

I have changed almost 15 thinkpads in last three years...

Right now..I am thinking to upgrade to T60 or T60p but I don't want to waste money..

My T43p is perfect for me...but I still want stronger machine...

Just need to figure out if this investment is worth..

In a few months' time, the new generation of Santa Rosa-based ThinkPads will become available. A little bit faster memory, support for flash-based ("Robson") SuperFetch cache for Vista, faster GPUs -- and support for more than 3 GB of memory. Here is more info about Santa Rosa:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrino

The latest info from Lenovo (confirmed by multiple sources) also indicates that the new ThinkPads will be all widescreen. So if you dream of widescreen, wait for the new systems; if you hate widescreen, you might want to pull the trigger now while you can still get a 4:3 display.
X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)

A major difference between the T4x and the T60's are the video cards. Almost none of the T4x have full support for Vista. The T60 have, which come in the form of full-blown aero glass support.

For daily use with XP yes they are. For the most part. Most users needs are rather simple and handled quite easily by nearly any somewhat modern $700 laptop on the market.

For Vista, no. It really sings with a dual core processor. I have a Pentium D 930 box (2x3GHz) at home and Vista Ultimate flies on it. It ran at acceptable speeds on my T41p. If you plan on running Vista, then get a T60P. However wait until after the T61 launch. The prices on T60's will drop and you will more than likely be able to score a great system from someone who feels the need to step up to the 'latest and greatest".
