T42 scrolls at 1680 x 1050 resolution
T42 scrolls at 1680 x 1050 resolution
I'm trying to tun a Lenovo D221 22" widescreen monitor off a T42 (model 2374-Q21 I believe) and am not making much progress. I can choose the correct res via the software but I end up with the desktop being wider than the screen and scrolling across (and up and down) when I move the mouse to the edges. The monitor reports the input res as 1280 x 1024.
I'm wondering if the display adaptor has enough RAM (memory size is reported as only 32MB). I thought the system RAM could be shared with the video but am not sure how to achieve this.
Alternatively, is my T42 model just not capable of driving beyond 1280 x 1024? I thought max res was capable of 2048 x 1536 with the appropriate video memory.
Anything I'm missing here? Thanks!
BTW, this is only with the DVI cable via docking station. VGA and everything is fine.

the video memory is not the problem.
I used an UXGA (1600x1200) screen on my X31 for ages, and that even only has a 16MB card.
You can calculate the needed video memory with height*width*colordepth:
for you this is 1680*1060*24 = 4536000 byte = 4429,69 kbyte = 4,3 MegaByte
you don`t use 32bits for truecolor because the last 8 bit contain no color. In reality, 32-bit color actually refers to 24-bit color (Truecolor) with an additional 8 bits, either as empty padding space or to represent an alpha channel.
so it has to be another problem, cos you got more video ram then 4.3 meg. You should try another graphics driver maybe. For example the Omegadriver (but be careful, you need to use an older version for graphics chips below the Ati Radeon 9600). All that is explained on www.omegadrivers.net

I assume you have a Thinkpad Port Replicator II. According to the specs, the max resolution for the DVI port is SVGA (1280 X 1024).

Re: T42 scrolls at 1680 x 1050 resolution
Sorry to resurrect such an old issue - but can anyone offer a solution to this problem?
I have just brought my old work T43 home to work from home - plugged in via a docking station and DVI cable and the screen scrolls. Tried installing the latest ATI driver from Lenovo website and monitor inf file too!
The T42 reports 1680 x 1050 output but my monitor reports 1280 x 1024 input.
Thanks in advance!

Re:
I agree with that. The Omega Drivers always worked flawlessly on my T42, offering some features that the Lenovo drivers did not.masterus wrote:Try OmegaDrivers , that should solve your problem
On the T60, on the other hand, I stay with the standard driver, because the Omega doesn't work properly with the Presentation Director for some reason.

Re: T42 scrolls at 1680 x 1050 resolution
Hi,
Thanks for the reply - I noticed the Omega driver post but as this is a work laptop I didnt want to risk them as I dont really know enough about Omega drivers.
I managed to get round the problem by digging out an old VGA cable and using that instead of the DVI cable.
Thanks.
