Extract image from diskette maker?

#1 Post by Frosty » Wed Mar 14, 2007 8:21 am

Hi, I'd like to extract the diskette image from an IBM self-extracting diskette maker (ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/bp ... tm22us.exe ) so I use it with floppy emulation. I have *NO* USB floppy drive... those are dead expensive.

P.S. Why the heck is the maint. diskette checking for write protection when I try to change the SN/Type? It shouldn't need to write to the diskette to write to the EEPROM...

Sorry, but I find that statement unbelievable, especially in Singapore.

Generic USB floppy drives, which is all that's required, are widely available for US$5 or less here in the US. I've seen them for less in Singapore.

I don't have a USB floppy either. This worked for me:

AFAIK, only an actual floppy drive will work with this program. A bootable CD will not work because it is write-protected. I do not believe a virtual floppy drive will work because you have to be able to boot it up. I do not think Windows can be running when you run the program on the floppy.

Sorry, I neglected to mention that I intend to do this on my external USB hard disk...

Maybe create a 1.4MB MS-RAMDRIVE and load the diskette image to it? But HOW?
