Help with soundmax on IBM T42

Hi all,
i have a problem with my laptop T42.
Before, i lost control of my audio card, and any time i tried to download and install again drivers for this card system answer me that driver are missing or corrupt (code 39) and the only sound i can hear is a "beep". After a lot of procedures find on web (not in this forum which unfortunetely i reach only yesterday..), removing hardware and adding again, re-installing drivers, etc...now i'm in the situation which the soundmax audio card it seems to work properly , as stated from device manager, but i can't hear any sound except the "beep".
Moreover consider that motherboard is ok, because if i start my laptop using linux bootable cd, i'm able to hear music and other audio files.
Ibm assistance suggest me to format pc, but before to do i would like to know if there is something i can do to solve issue without reformatting.
Please, help me!!!
