I had sent my Thinkpad to IBM ( Solectron) for replacement of a dead fan. System came back, but with a new keyboard and what appeared to be a newly installed fingerprint reader. Of course, the sensor could not be loaded and hence the reader did not work. ( Yes, I tried installing the UPEK Sensor device manually , and after several attempts gave up ). IBM asked me to resend the Thinkpad, and they were to resolve the problem. When I received the " repaired" Thinkpad, I found that they had indeed resolved the problem of the fingerprint reader !! They had replaced the entire keypad bezel with one that did not have any fingerprint reader !!!
Now that is what I call solving a problem. Remove and disaassociate any reference to a device, and the device no longer will be a problem !!!
Frustration, frustration, frustration !!
