kinsigton not fitting in T42 security slot

#1 Post by phat_mats » Sat Sep 25, 2004 7:35 pm

Hi;

I ordered a Kensigton MicroSaver security cable from www.dell.com

I thought the Kensington was suppose to fit the T42. My model is specifically the T42 2373-9XU. I doubt that makes any difference though.

It's the normal keylocking Kensington Microsaver.

It looks like it would fit if the two bars on the side weren't in the way. It has the longer dogbone shaped piece up the middle and then two small bars on the side that seem to hit against the side of my computer. The long piece up the middle fits inside the computer slot but it doens't go all the way, and when I try to lock it it won't turn.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreicated. Thanks.

edit: I checked the IBM website. It has the exact same security cable except it says "Kensigton Microsaver by IBM". Would it be different than the one I ordered through Dell?

How did you get it in there? In my T42, there's metal behind the slot and the lock doesn't go in far enough to open.

Yeah I did that myself (in order to prevent it happening overnight) when I lost my key:

Ok, to all you guys that said you figured out how to get it in then. How did you do it?? A friend of mine who has that lock and a T42 says the lock doesn't seem to go all the way in the slot.

Maybe a simple explanation of what it takes would be great :).

Anyone?? My friend said he got the lock in somehow once but can't get it in again. I'm sure one of you uses a lock with your laptop.

Having problems with Kensington Lock

#11 Post by tlvan » Tue Apr 24, 2007 12:01 am

Dear all,

I have Kensington Key Lock that I doesn't seem to fit my T43-1871. When I insert the lock into the keyhole (beside the USB ports), the lock will not turn nor will it lock. I've tried to push the lock in as hard as I can, and it won't turn. The keyhole in the laptop doesn't seem to be deep enough; the T bar at the end of the lock doesn't appear to insert fully. I'm hoping there someone with a T4X and a working Kensington Lock that can help me. I phoned Kensington Support and they couldn't help.

Cheers.
