docking station and dvi resolution

#1 Post by Nabeel » Thu Mar 22, 2007 8:52 am

hey guys,

been a while! got a quick question...

I got a external widescreen now, 20", but its on my TP's VGA port. I think it'll look better with DVI, so I'm trying to get a docking station.

Now, I'm reading the max resolution on the DVI is 1280x1024 (according to thinkwiki)

My monitor is 1600x something, haha.

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Dock_II

Says that it does support it, but it's inconsistant. It works at that resolution fine on my VGA port - so is the DVI resoltion hardware or driver dependent?

Because it says:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... throughput
support a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 on the replicators/docks DVI port. Resolutions above were not supported in standard drivers at all for a long time and may lead to random screen corruption if used with modified or alternative drivers.
So that implies its driver related?

Also on the side - is the dock strong enough to put a monitor on top of??

ANd one last one.... does it use the standard TP power supply? Or is it a seperate one...

Thanks

Hi,

Personally I have a T43p and Dock II and this is connected through DVI to a monitor running 1920x1200, resolution was supported without any modifications to drivers.
I would not advice putting the monitor on the actual dock, partly because surface on which you could put it is not horizontal, weight is another issue.
The Dock has a power supply built in which connects to mains.

Hope this helps,
