T40 + DVI + Apple 20 inch cinema

I've done many searches but I still haven't found the exact answer I wanted:

The Apple 20 inch cinema displays have a resolution of 1680 x 1050. I know that if you mod the T40 driver you can get 1600x1200, but will the driver automatically detect that the monitor is 1680x1050 and display at that resolution?

the best way to find out is hit the nearest apple store and try it out.
