Help - Software Installer Freezes now!?

#1 Post by dmcgibbo » Sun Sep 26, 2004 9:53 pm

i updated a few things on IBM's device matrix for my T42p including to the new software installer.

anyway, when i try to use software installer now, it freezes and won't finish searching the driver folders.

what gives? it got stuck on C:\drivers\WXP\Display\video.tpi so i removed the display folder and then it would just get stuck on another .tpi in another folder...

Yeah, that exact thing happened to me too. So I uninstall it, and reinstalled the older version. I wouldn't bother with the new one, until IBM releases an updated one.

The new version of Software Installer was hanging on the Wireless NIC folder on my machine (IBM 11/a/b/g card). IBM issued a revised Wireless NIC driver and the problem went away. I should say that IBM has been revising many of their drivers (apparently to comply with SP2 for XP). I have been downloading and applying those drivers as well (including Video). So Software Installer is working fine, but over half the drivers are all new. ... JDHurst

well i installed the new IBM a/b/g driver and it fixed my network connectivity problems it seemed (see my other thread about it not connecting to my netgear router) but then i just downloaded a bunch of the drivers including that same a/b/g and used software installer to update everything and it's not working again. haha oh well.

My software installer is also freezing on VIDEO.TPI, so how do we get rid of this new sofware installer, and get the old version?? I can't find the old version on IBM's website, and trying to downgrade from within the software installer itself also freezes on VIDEO.TPI

luckily i had saved the old install file but otherwise, where do you find older install/drivers? software installer has ability to roll back to older installed versions, but not if the drivers have been overwritten over the last install (which they almost always are). i guess you should download and save all the files on the device matrix on ibm's site? hmm...

btw, the old software installer works find and my ibm a/b/g works too. very curious...

i have all the ibm website drivers in c:\website\drivers\... and i renamed c:\drivers and c:\ibmtools to c:\drivers_x and c:\ibmtools_x.

and the installer works properly now - i think the new installer was choking on the older *.tpi files that were shipped with the machine
