T43 Freezing With Pressure on Palmrest

#1 Post by Evo_MR » Sun Mar 25, 2007 8:25 pm

Hi everybody, I've been a frequent visitor to the forum but just became a member today, mainly because I've been searching the forum for a solution to a problem that has been bothering me for the past couple of days. I have a T43 14.1" by the way. Anyway, it seems that whenever I rest my hands on the palmrest when typing, my computer freezes up. Once I take my hands off of the palmrest, the computer works like normal. I never had this problem before, and it's just so irritating when I type. How can I treat this problem? Is something wrong with my hard drive? Any input would greatly be appreciated.

I tried twisting the base and it pretty much freezes it pressure is placed on the area of the palmrest where the fingerprint reader is located, especially on the outer right-hand corner of the notebook.

If it's still under warranty call IBM you will need a new motherboard.

just for fun, try removing the palmrest..

it SHOULD boot without the FPR and touchpad..
you'll get error messages, but it should finish booting..

then see if it freezes when twisting the case..

i am thinking there might be a loose plug or a cable pinched under the palmrest..

Wow, I may need a new motherboard??? I noticed that if I tilt my notebook forward a few degrees, the freezing effect will also take place, until I return the notebook to a flat position.

Sounds like a case of the flexing motherboard. That particular issue is well documented on the forums.

Are you experiencing any video lockups?

There is 1 memory module located under the palm rest. Remove the the palm rest and then remove and re-seat the module. Re-install the palm rest. See if your problem is still there.
