Is this price right for T42?

#1 Post by ravi2patel » Mon Sep 27, 2004 10:53 am

Hello,

I am new to this forum and was hoping to get some guidence with pricing.

I have settled on 2378FVU EXP T42 PENTIUM M 1.7 2M L2 $1,756.55 + 3YR DEPOT REPAIR $110.88 = $1867.43. This is suppose to include student discount.

Should I press IBM for more goodies to be included with this package ? She is only offering free shipping ($35).

Regards,
Ravi

I don't know how big student discounts are, but I bought mine a few weeks ago for about $1950. That included shipping ($60), another 512MB RAM ($95) and the 2378-FVU. So your price is better.

That's IBM's standard 5% discount rate (available to VISA, corporate, etc, clients) off express thinkpads. If your state tax is more than 5%, you'd do better getting it from Bill Morrow on this site (who doesn't charge sales tax). Also, check out your state's higher education discounts in the IBM site, which are up to 25% off list (non-express) prices.

That sounds about right overall. I just got mine and the price was about where yours is. I got a small educational discount, (about 100$) and I also got the accidental damage coverage, with the depot repair and all that, for 300, so my overall price was a little higher because of that.

That is a perfectly fine price, because you will not be charged sales tax (at least in my case).

Not in the states that don't have a sales tax! Currently these are Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

Oops, yes, I guess they wouldn't collect state sales tax in states that don't have any
