Port Replicator II for T43P

#1 Post by bblake » Tue Mar 27, 2007 1:30 pm

Hi all, after almost 6 years with a T23 (superb machine) I've upgraded to a T43P and am in the process of getting everything working. I've just found this very useful forum and signed up - thanks for all the tips I've already benefited from.

OK - the question: I need some form of dock. The Mini-dock seems best but is quite expensive. So I'm thinking about a Port Replicator II can be found quite cheaply on eBay over here in UK.

The only real downside to this is the single USB port (I've already got a spare power supply). Now pictures seem to show that the T43 side mounted USB ports will not be blocked by the port replicator. Is it possible to use these as well as the single port on the Port. R. II? If so that would suffice.

Of course, I can always just get a USB hub and that would work also.
Regards,

Brendan Blake.

Although I've got the Minidock I can confirm that the 2 Side Ports still work.
Is far as what I've heard the 4 Ports in the Minidock are only a kind of hub too. Ich think this was mentioned somswhere here.

Of course you have to take in consideration that the minidock also comes with an 120W AC-Adapter wich makes it more expensive. You can't use your normal AC_Adapter with it like with the Port-Replikator II.

I have the T42s (2373-K5H) and the Port Replicator II, been using it for 2.5 yrs.

Can confirm all 3 USB ports can work (the 2 on your notebook computer, and the 1 USB port on the Port Replicator II).

What I do is, use a Port Hub, and plug it into the back of the Port Replicator II, so that all my 3-4 USB cables plug into the hub.
So no USB cables connected to the notebook computer.

Hope this helps!

That's most helpful - many thanks.

There are a few items I only occasionally plug in like a memory card reader or an MP3 player and those will be easier to plug in at the side - as without needing a port for them I can get away with just the one port for now.

Now let's see if I can get a 74P6733 on eBay.
