You can use this one. but you will need to apply the NO 1801 hack to the BIOS.

no he will NOT be able to use that one!

the T42 features a normal PCI-Bus and thus needs a mini-pci WLAN card.

your link offers a mini-pci EXPRESS card, which can only be used from the T43 and upwards.

please don`t supply people with false information if you are not sure what you are saying, especially with buying recommendations. it`s the other people`s money that is lost, not yours.

well, sorry for the way I said this

I`ve just seen inaccurate buying recommendations so much that it seriously starts to annoy me. Some people really rely on such things and then buy wrong parts.

It was nothing personal against cmarti, sorry for being impolite.

edit:
someone deleted cmarti`s and danage`s comments, so my comment seems out of place now maybe

erazor , even your recommendation about T43 and up is not true.

It should have been T60 and up !

T43 also has a mini-pci only, only the cardbus slot has pci-express, but that connector is different and is only for plug and remove cards.

right, sorry.

that doesn`t matter here when we are talking about a T42, though. but ofcourse it`s not correct.

Apparently the one from sparklan should work. You will need to hack the bios though.

I might pick one up for my T41p. Looks interesting.

Thanks Temetka.
Hack the BIOS?
Doesn't sound right to be hacking the bios to get a hardware part working on thinkpad.
Sounds like there is limitations, to having a N-card.

It's very simple, and it won't damage your lappy.

I know because i have done to my previous T40 and also in my girlfriend X30.

Here is a link for a thread that will explain everything.

it`s not "hacking the bios" btw. The bios itself remains untouched.

all that is done that a bit is being changed in the CMOS (the part were bios settings are stored), so no damage is done to the bios software itself but changes are only done to the CMOS where the bios stores its settings.

The only limitation is buying a piece of kit for which there is no (ratified) standard yet.
