I never post, but my hinge broke in two about a month ago. I was surprised because I heard that Thinkpad hinges were the most sturdy, but it was the first serious problem with my t43 in a year and a half (the dvd drive failed twice, but I could just swap that out).
Anyway, I was closing my laptop normally, and the bigger hinge broke in half. It is only attached to the body on one side of it, surprisingly.
But Lenovo support was fine. I called them Monday, had a DHL box on Tuesday (and DHL picked it up the same day), Solectron received it Wednesday, it was repaired and shipped on Thursday, and I got it on Friday. I was very impressed with the timing of this repair; I thought it would take at least two weeks.
Here's a picture of it from my phone camera: http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/5836 ... 829rj6.jpg

Another story with a happy ending for a thinkpad user and the warranty service.dstraus wrote:
