Bought a new T42 - Protruding battery

#1 Post by sairam313 » Wed Sep 29, 2004 2:46 pm

Hi,

I just bought a brand new t42 - 2373 w7v. I see that the battery protrudes outside which I don' t like.

Is this a failure model by any chance? Can I replace it with a battery that fits the think pad normally??

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Sairam

that protruding battery will give you another 3 hours of battery life, however if for some reason you still dont like it you can get a 6 cell that will cut a decent amount of life, but it will be flush with the back

You got a great battery. Yes it extends because its the 9 cell exteended life series. The 6 cell doesnt protrude, but has shorter battery life.

I bought a 6 Cell from Pinnacle as a "travel / spare" and with shipping it was $87. When I need the long run time I use the 9 cell and when I want the lighter weight / smaller profile install the 6 cell. Battery was manufactured in 5/2004 and came in an IBM sealed box.

Out of curiosity, do you like the W7V? Does the protruding battery cause you some other pain than aesthetics of a flush line? How well does the machine run different apps?

Thanks

Hi,

I love the machine. Initially I was not happy with the protruding battery but after a few days, I find that the extra battery life overrides the looks.

I find the performance comparable to my desktop (that has 2 gigs and 2.66 ghz)

The access connections and battery maximiser are just great. I am yet to explore the security chip. Thinkpad rocks :D

I had exactly the same initial reaction with my T41p. What is this "Beluga" battery sticking out the back?

But after you go a full day without charging, or watch two DVDs back to back without charging ... it grows on you. :D

Quick question. IBM offers the 'High Capacity Li-Ion Battery' for [+ $50.00] under the main Battery dropdown menu. Is that flush with the back of the computer or is that a 9-cell that will stick out?

All 9 cells stick out.
