T41 CD Burner

#1 Post by peetm » Sat Apr 07, 2007 2:08 am

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to swap my T41's DVD/CD combo drive for one that can [at least] *burn* CDs?

Thanks

Yep. There is a drive that will read DVD and burn CD. I have one in my T41p right now. Unfortunately I do not know the FRU# for you, but atleast confirming that it can be done will help to point you in the right direction.

I would suggest posting a WTB: T4x DVD-ROM/CD-RW topic in the marketplace.

If you are into replacing your optical drive, I'd suggest going for the Multiburner Plus (or even Super Multiburner, from the T60 series), that can burn all formats.

I saw the appropriate multiburner available from the IBM refurbished web site last week.

Do you have a FRU/Part-No for this - or a link to where I might find such a thing at all please?

Ok, I've found some of these for sale - one quick question though - if/when I plug one of these into my T41, what would happen, i.e., would you know if my T41 would automagically recognise this, or would I need to find drivers for it via the Lenovo website etc?

Many thanks

No - its an IBM site. Go to www.ibm.com and follow the link from that page to "IBM certified and used equipment"

No drivers are needed for optical drives since Win95.

Thread poaching (a little) -- Is this the same Super MultiBurner that I would use in a T42? Or is it a different size? I already have a DVDRW/CDRW in a T23 but I was told it would not fit in the T42.

There's also this one on eBay at

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1

which says it's new and specifically for the T42 among others, but rates it at 6X instead of 8X when burning DVD-RW and DVD+RW.

It's cheaper--you think the guy got the specs wrong or is this a different unit altogether?

Thanks (and sorry for butting in)--

Silo
