Can you do a test for me? (Lower the resolution on your T42)

#1 Post by rocketman » Thu Sep 30, 2004 5:45 pm

I just got off the phone with a friend, earlier today I was telling him that I'm very interested in purchasing a T42, he's very familiar with IBM laptops. Anyway he told me that his cousin works for a school that sells Thinkpads and he could get me a good price on one. He called me back a few minutes again and told me the model he can get me is the 2373-7XU, which has the 1600x1200 resolution. Now I know that resolution is too small for my eyes, can someone please do a test for me and lower the resolution on their 1600 x 1200 display to 1024 x 768 and let me know if it still pretty sharp.
Usually when you don't view an LCD display at it's native resolution it looks kind of fuzzy, I was told that if I lower the resolutiom on the T42p it still looks pretty good. I would definitely need to lower the resolution for web browsing and some applications.

I doubt your eyes are any worse than mine. Bottom line is if you use WinXP there are plenty of tweaks to alleviate some visual problems. Same in most browsers including IE. My task in life is to read depositions before trials looking for the proverbial "Smoking gun" I have both a 14'and 15" Flexview. Love'm both, but once I got the 2373-KXU I have not been sorry and have since given the 14' to my son. Obviously YMMV
T41p-GEU / T42p-KXU bought from Bill/ T60p-8HU / 4 T400p's and now a T440p

I use a 15" 1400x1050 dumbed down to 1024x768 with cleartype - it's quite usable - not as crisp as a native 1024x768 but it does have the faster video hardware :)

I was told lowering the dpi is a poor way to accomplish what I want, something about affecting some programs etc. I don't know if it's true though.

My friend e-mailed me that the price of the 2373-7XU will be about $2,830, is that a good price?
