T42p - Installed Vista, now my fan never turns off.

My fan keeps running all the time. My CPU maintains performance state of 1-2% but the fan keeps going and going without ever shutting up. I dont remember if that happened before I installed Lenovo Power Mangement Drivers, or after.

Please help if anyone knows what the issue is.

i have a t41 and it's about the same. what you could try is to turn off the indexing and a lot of the obsolete stuff. there are sites on the web that tell you how to. you lose some features though.

i notice you have a P series thinkpad. do you get the 3d features? if yes, that is the reason: the gpu gets hot. you could try turning aero off.

Do you have the latest Power Management driver and Power Manager for Vista. The latest Power Management driver is v1.41. The latest Power Manager is v2.01.

The Power Manager is the successor to the Battery Maximiser. The Power Manager includes several different settings to lower the temp and reduce fan speed. The best setting to lower your fan speed is to create a 'Low Fan Noise' profile and set the CPU speed to adaptive.
