Atheros Super G not at 108mbs

#1 Post by kid8 » Mon Apr 16, 2007 7:18 am

Hello everyone, love this board by the way.

My problem is this: I bought a Bios modded Atheros card for my T41. It works great, plugged it in and nothing else was needed and no errors. The card works great. My problem is though, that it is only running at 54mbs instead of 108mbs. The weird thing though is that windows reports it running at 108mbs while Atheros says 54, and it is actually running at 54mbs. The same thing happened w/my PCMCIA card as well.

My specs:

WiFi Card: Atheros 5212a a/b/g 108Mbps Wireless WLAN WIFI Mini PCI Card for IBM

Router: Netgear WGT624v3

Both are 108mbs compatiable but I can't get above 54mbs. If anyone knows a way to get around this it would be much appreciated. I looked around on Netgears site but there wasn't really anything I could find and was hoping maybe someone else experienced this same problem before.

Thanks again.

that is because you reach 108mbit practically only in the laboratory.

try changing the wlan channel in the router. try connecting only one pc. try disabling bluetooth, satellite receivers, digital phones in the vicinity.

thanks for the info, tried a different channel and that did not work. I don't have bluetooth or any cordless phones in the apartment either and have cable not satellite.

When you say "it's actually running at 54mbps", what are you relying on?

the atheros gauge, plus just the way it feels as well doesn't feel like 108mbs. It says that the current transmit rate is 54 and the recieve rate goes anywhere from 48 to 54mbs

the speed will only improve about 20% compared to 54mbps, even under ideal conditions.

are you certain your card supports 108mbit? it has to be enabled in the driver as well, if i recall correctly.

this is the card I have:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1
I have the latest non-beta driver installed and checked off the extended range and super G in the software so they are enabled and both show up on the client software that my router supports them.
