T40 owners - wha tkind of battery life do you get ?

#1 Post by muffd » Sat Oct 02, 2004 11:30 am

I have the extended battery and the regular battery that comes with the T40 2373-92U. What kind of battery life do you get with your thinkpads?
My fully charged extended battery says that at 94% it will only give out 3 hours and 3 minutes. This is without doing anything and just sitting idle. I thought it should say more than that. I have not checked the regular battery yet for it's time but will post that again later.

I also would like to know something about the battery warranty. I bought this back in march of this year and have the 4 year next day service warranty. Do they just send you a new battery or do I get one and then send my old one back afterwards?

FRU for the little battery is 08K8193
Extended battery is 08k8198
Thanks for all your input.

Try changing the screen brightness? Also make sure ATI powerplay is enabled.

I have the 6 cell battery, and a T40 237319U. I have had my machine for 15+ months now, and I can get about 1:30 on a full charge! Yes it's sad. Remember these are batteries: they die after a while, just like rechargable AAA, AA, C, D, 9V and even your car battery die after being used for a while. It is normal to have much lower battery after several months.

Now, I'm not sure about how you recieve a new battery, but about the warranty: The battery is covered for only one year. Your 4 year next day service warranty applies to everything but the battery. So, some time after this March you think you need a new battery, IBM won't give you one without you paying for it.

Hope this helps.

X40 seems to handle batteries better

#6 Post by eriqesque » Sat Oct 02, 2004 1:59 pm

I personaly think its a flaw in the T series or the battery and the program.
I had the T40 and each and eveytime i used the battery it would lose Whr's
I have the X40 now and I have about 10 cycles on the battery and it fully charges back up I have not lost 1 Whr.
Also I know it's not the X40 reporting bad info because the battery actually last as long as the Battery MaxMiser program says it will.
The X40 just seems to handle the battery and the battery MaxMiser program seems to work better on the X40 than on the T series.
Just MHO.

Hi eriqqesque

I just called and tried to get a replacement battery. They have to send me the same one. The guy was saying if I were to ask for the sony battery, there was a chance that i would be getting billed for it. I said screw it and just asked for another battery.
