I really was counting on a T42 but with all the dead pixel issues and bad speakers, I dont know what to do.

Stop listening to the "Naysayers". I have none of those issues myself. Love everything about mine. I think what you have heard is fortunately a minority voice. Go for it, you can always return it no questions asked during the first 30 days.

i have one dead pixel in the bottom right of the screen, i can't see it.

the speakers on these are bad? these are the best ones i've heard. they sound quite good.

go look at dells or compaqs. they're just horrible compared to thinkpads. this thing is light, powerful and solid.

dead pixels plague every manufacturer; IBM seems to even have a lower tolerance than most others. if this is a serious concern, go with a falcon northwest, hypersonic, or voodoo. Then again, there is always ibm's 30 day retrun policy as mrbjr alluded to. Just keep trying for a clean display- btw- I have no dead pixels.

as for speakers, come on! while my t42 doesn't have nearly as loud speakers as on older t40's, who the hell cares? Through my sennheiser hd590s, things sound great. Also, if you are that concerned about hi-fi audio output, consider an external audigy with powered speakers. Onboard sound should be one of the lowest concerns you should have with a notebook; someone should start a poll.

Totally agreed. The speakers are not really that bad but there is little reason to use it. If you are at home just hook up external speakers. If you are on the road a headphone will be much more practical.

Yup. The speakers really aren't that bad.

I had one pixel that I could never find, even sometimes when I looked for it.

But, the computer died completely one day, so I just sent it back... :D

I'm getting another one though, and they're awesome.

If I buy from Bill, do I get a 30 day return/exchange for having a burn pixel?
