I've seen Windows temporarily "forget" what the power settings are. If the display is turning off after a specific amount of time has elapsed without usage/mouse movement (i.e, one, two, three minutes), then open up the Power Options window (Start/Control Panel/Power Options/Power schemes tab). Verify the setting of the "Turn off monitor" dropdown box for your current power usage (plugged in or battery). If it's displaying some time (1, 2, 3 minutes), then you've found your problem. If it's displaying "never", try changing it to 1 minute, then back to "never", and then click the "Apply" button. Close the Power Option Properties window and wait to see if that fixed it.

If the display is turning off in seconds rather than minutes, then there's some other issue.

I had a similar issue recently, but moving the TrackPoint would not make it turn back on for me. Try a different power profile and see how yours behaves. You can do this from the green battery icon that should be displayed in the system tray. You can also change power profiles from Power Options in Windows Control Panel. See the Power Schemes tab.
