newbie w/ OCZ Value ram question

I just picked up a T40-1.5/512m/40g (well .. it is allegedly 'on it's way') and i will be kind of in a pinch to get familiar with it and all as in a few months, i am moving aboard my boat, and sailing away.

anyway, my knowledge isn't real deep when it comes to ram. i know i want at least 1gig, and looking around i see good deals on OCZ Value PC2700 (i read that PC2700 will work, just at 266, OCZ's site states: PC-2700 Value series runs at 2.5-4-4) however i have read comments that OCZ Value is 'slow'. in this context would 'slow' have to do with latency?

being that OCZ is a reputable manufacturer, would their low end product be more trusted then a cheap no name?

has anyone any history with OCZ Value ram?

Welcome to the forum! Have fun on your trip. If the T40 is for mission critical operation best to have a second computer for backup. You never know what could happen on the high seas. I don't personally use OCZ though I have heard they are one of the better brands. I have used Kingston, PNY, Infineon among others whose names escape me at the moment.

yes, just prior to leaving i plan to buy another T40, mirror the drive, and wrap it in plastic with some 'do not eat' dehumidifying bags and stow it away.. just in case ..also i have on my wish list a ultrabay HDD adapter so i can keep a local mirror going.
