Thanks.

I would guess the answer is no.

Yes, since it has a 400MHz FSB (Front Side Bus).

I upgraded the CPU in my T41 to a 1.8GHz Dothan but it is a Pentium M 745 and has a 400MHz Front Side Bus. I don't know what the difference between that and a PM 755 is. ... JDH

Ah, 200Mhz?

From Intel Pentium M Processor list:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/detail ... Spec=SL7EN (745)
http://processorfinder.intel.com/detail ... Spec=SL7EM (755)

Only apparent difference is the Bus/Core ratio

It will work as long as you keep fsb at 400. Multiplier is not an issue here.

If I may say, that CPU is pretty expensive.
If you run heavy encoding/decoding software or you are rendering in 3D environment, you will see 10-15% increase in performance (or decrease in rendering/decoding time).
In every other situation, I believe that investment will not justify itself but you are the boss:)

I will gain a few things out of this:

1. Faster CPU - Which in the long run will add to the life of the machine
2. More efficiency - Dothan is more efficient than Banias.
3. Bragging rights - How many people have a 2GHz T41p or T4x serieies?
3. Mental piece - Now I know I have one of the biggest baddest T41P/T42P machines out there. Since the primary difference between T41 and T42 seems to be Dothan, then I've got that covered.

This is going to be awesome.

In my case, I rather wait to get a T61, T80? than to upgrade my 745 (1.8Ghz) processor. But hey, my Thinkpads have never failed on me, I might keep this T42p for 2-3 more years until I have the money to get a fully fledged T series Thinkpad.

Good luck

You already have a full fledged T series machine.

My T41P is going to kick-[censored]. I work with dual core machines all the time at work. Gateways, HP's, Acers, Toshiba. They all suck. They all use Core2Duo which is great. They all retail for less then $650. They all have integrated graphics </shudder>.

This T41P is going to be the best laptop I have ever owned.

We can make it faster.
We have the technology.
