I am thinking that this is a Windows issue.
I've used my AP for months with my PowerBook with NOT ONE issue, ever, so I doubt the AP is at fault here.
Wireless in Windows is just mind boggling. If I'm lucky enough to get an IP, it might work for a few hours, then it will cut out for half a minute, then start working again, and so on.
Sometimes I can't get an IP for the life of me.
Sometimes I get an IP but can't get outside, even though I can ping the router.
I read online the others have issues like this too. A recommendation is to disable Wireless Zero Configuration. Did that, not much help. Installed SP2, seemed to work better, got an IP, was online, then it started cutting out again.
Was anyone that had this model, or this wireless card, able to surf the web with no issues, or was able to fix symptoms that I described? If so, how?
My AP filters access by MAC address so there is no encryption running.
Wireless on 2378FVU Windows XP and 2200BG a/b/g unreliable
Update your router firmware also, if possible. This is a known compatibility problem with some routers (what router are you using - your message suggests an "a/b/g" - switch off "a" if you can). Disable 802.1x authentication. Try running open (not limited MAC addresses) for a short while to see if this is the problem. Are non-preferred networks in the area trying to connect and disconnecting your laptop from your main network?
I have a T42/Intel 2200 and a D-link a/b/g router and had a similar problem with some cards (atheros, believe it or not) but not others until I updated the router firmware

I'm running a Netgear a/b AP. I'd guess the card and AP negotiate the wireless band automatically, but if there's a way to set my card to only look for 802.11B APs, I can try setting that.
I do have the latest drivers for the Intel card from IBM's site. I do not see any other wireless networks where I am.
Will try upgrading the firmware on the Netgear and opening the AP up completely.
