Shortage of SXGA+ T42?
Shortage of SXGA+ T42?
I ordered a T42 in the beginning of September (a 2373-JXG which would be the same as a 2373-JXU in the states). The delivery was first said to be in a couple of weeks, maybe three. Then a date came, which was last Thursday. Today they say that it won't be delivered until the 27th of October.
Since it sounded a bit fishy, I called another distributer who told me that it wouldn't even be possible to put down an order for a 1400*1050 computer for another month or so, and when it was possbile, IBM wouldn't be delivering until December! The reason would be that IBM can't deliver enough 1400*1050 panels. His advice was to look at another screen resolution.
Anyone else heard about this? Do IBM have a hard time delivering T42s with SXGA+ panels? Is it just an European thing maybe?

You should just cancel that order and maybe consider ordering your Thinkpad from www.newegg.com. They have them all in stock, ready to ship:)

Well, when I ordered mine old T a few months ago, it was the same story given to me by my local campus computer shop.
Eventually, it did come in.
I would imagine it's true. To make them at that pixel density and (relatively) defect free is not fun. And if something happened that messed up a lot, there's quite a lead time to start a new lot.

Well, a couple of hours ago I recieved a receipt from the online store saying that the computer had left their warehouse! I'm following the package online now, although I won't believe that it really is the computer I ordered until I actually sees it...
I made som fuzz about all this and called IBM Sweden yesterday. I guess they should be a bit worried when their partners gives totally different answers, which later proved to be all wrong since the computer probably is in my lap tomorrow.
