wireless card opinions Atheros vs Intel Pro

#1 Post by noeffort » Sat May 05, 2007 5:31 pm

Which is the better of the two?
Atheros AR5BMB-44 or Intel Pro/Wireless 2915 Mini PCI 802.11abg

I have both and will only keep one. I have been using the atheros and satisfied with the wireless connections.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I had one atheros and 3 intel's cards in my life. Atheros is much better when yos ask about performance - range, quality of connection. Intel has a little less power consumption. But is little - about 15 min. But you waste this time for connecting and reconnecting or looking for connection (witch atheros is alredy connected). Its my opinion.

thanks for the reply.
I purchased a replacement t41 for my original t41. I just swapped out the hard drive, memory and decided to stay with the Atheros. Never had any problems with it and the reception was excellent. Also all the Access Connections (on 7200rpm drive) was working on my original.
I read a couple of previous posts and you can open a can of worms by messing around with drivers, etc....

If you are happy enough with the Atheros card then hold onto it.

However, be aware that both Intel and Atheros cards have their own distinct set of issues and that many of the reported problems with each card types are nothing much to do with the card itself, and have a very great deal to do with the intrinisc nature of WiFi data communications sytems.

Cheers,

Bill

i like Atheros card. Not because it's performence, but also its power consumption.
