Ultrabay 2000 Slim -> Ultrabay 2000 mod possible?

#1 Post by agarza » Mon May 14, 2007 3:22 pm

I was wondering if I could save some bucks using a Ultrabay 2000 Slim drive in a A22 instead of buying a Ultrabay 2000 drive

I'm pretty sure there was an adapter offered for Ultrabay Slim to Ultrabay 2000. I went searching for it today for another post, but couldn't find it. There was also an adapter for Ultrabay Enhanced to Ultrabay 2000.

I hope to be able to answer with part numbers when I get my T43 back which has got the infos. Loaned to a doctor who promptly flew abroad for 10 days :(

OK. Thanks for the reply, I've heard about the Enhanced Ultrabay though.

andyP is correct. This site has some limited info:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Ultrabay_ ... rabay_2000

IBM FRU is 62P4557. This adapter seems to be very rare. I have not found one on eBay whenever I've tried looking for one (have an Ultraslimbay optical drive that I want to check out in a T23).

(edit: Amazon.com appears to have some at the moment)

Thanks For The Link, but I'm looking for a way to do the mod. Maybe removing the bezels from a floppy maybe and fitting them on a Ultrabay Slim device would work

I know for a fact that you can use an ultrabay slim device from a T42 in an ultrabay enhanced bay (R51). The device is not as tall as the bay and the faceplate does not line up perfect but the electrical connector matches properly and the device works fine.

So do you think my suggestion would work. Just so use the CD-RW/DVD slim unit on my dad's Thinkpad but just for a temporary use.
