A different experience with Ezserve

#1 Post by richk » Mon May 14, 2007 10:02 pm

I have found that the only people who post customer service experiences are those who think they got screwed. I fix and sell or part-out thinkpads and I bought a broken T42 last Wednesday that turned out to have warranty remaining. I called on Wednesday afternoon and they sent a packing box that I received Thursday. I dropped off the machine at a DHL drop point the same day. They received the machine Friday morning, and replaced the motherboard. They shipped it back Saturday and I got the machine back Monday morning.

Not bad. But how was the machine's condition when you got it back?

The machine looked new when I sent it in and looked the same when it came back. It was missing 2 of the screw covers when I bought it. They added those. If I had to find something to complain about, I would say that when I put a machine together, I do a better job of getting the screw covers straight, but I can live with that.

I didn't send in any parts for them to lose. I pulled the HDD, battery, optical drive and memory. They even set the machine type and serial number correctly in the eeprom. Many of the machines I see that have been serviced by IBM dealers don't have that done right and I have to fix it.

a related question

I bought a T42 on eBay and although hte ad said there was not warranty remaining, when I went to the Lenovo site and had the site software identify the computer and then look up the warranty the site's software said the T42 is under warranty until April 2008.

Can I believe this or is it possible that the seller (or someone else) messed with something in the machine such that it ould be mis-identified by the Lenovo/IBM software.

As a second question, can I send it to IBm/Lenovo for service, tuneup, upgrade, whatever? Or can I only send it if it is complete broken down? I wouldn't mind having the machine looked over by techncians and brought up to spec if that's possible.

Or am I living in a dream world (Apple Mac).

Congratulations on your purchase and lucky you. I know how you feel. I just picked up another T43p. I was suprised to learn of the special warranty the previous owner purchased. Four years with on site and a Thinkplus upgrade. I was pleasantly suprised.

I have only sent in ThinkPads for required service. I am not sure how they would handle tuneups, upgrades and the like. Please let us know what they say.
