Does this means my T42 mainboard was dead?

#1 Post by indiglo » Fri May 18, 2007 4:28 pm

Hi. My T42 just dead without any response. Only the "battery status" and "power on" light were on. No response to any key. I have checked the ram, hdd with another working T42. Does this means the mainboard was dead? Thanks.

Sounds so, yes.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

If you have access to another keyboard, try that. It is possible the power switch died. Next, unplug it and pull the battery. Press the power button 10 times, holding the power button for 10 seconds the last time. That will discharge all the capacitors. Plug it in and try again. If that doesn't work, unplug it, pull the battery and disconnect the CMOS battery. Reconnect the CMOS battery, plug it in and try again. If that doesn't work, you're screwed.

Hi. I tried it, the keyboard, ram, hdd are all right. Still no response.
I'm not sure where is cmos battery. Is it the backup battery under the palm rest? Thanks a lot?

By the way. Once the system board was really broken.
Is it valuable to change the another working T42 system board, cause my T42 was out of warranty?

That's the one. Just to be certain, it's yellow in color and usually says "IBM Panasonic Lithium battery" on it.

To some people it is. Quick ebay result showed a system board for T42 ranges between US $179-$295.
