T42 Wont Restart

#1 Post by tpmwr » Fri May 18, 2007 6:11 pm

I did some searching and couldn't find this problem so I figured I'd post it up:

My system refuses to take the 'reboot' command. Whenever windows, my windows install (dual booted to XP today) or my OSX (tri booted with OSX today too :-p) tries to issue the shutdown comment the computer just turns all the status lights under the monitor (except the battery light) off and just locks up. I don't get why it's doing this since it is happening outside of the OS level. Any suggestions?

Under XP, see if there is anything in the event log.

Sorry for the double post, I think this is being caused by my partitions, not sure how to fix that though.

Tried chkdsk with lo errors found

You may have a virus or spyware. You need to run a good virus scanner first. Then check for spyware. I like spybot, because it is good and it is free. If both of those show no problem, start the task manager and see what is running.

I don't have any viruses or spyware, i know that much. This problem is happening outside of just windows, since it happened in the windows XP install app
