T42, T42P, T43 or T43P HELP!
Hello!
I'm going to invest into in a new Thinkpad T42/p or T43/p but i don't really know which one to buy. At the moment i am on a Thinkpad T42 with only 32mb Ati Radeon Mobility 7500 Graphic memory. It's really the edge with what i can live with.
I'm not running Microsoft Products at all (such as Windows Vista/XP) and i never will.
My needs:
14" or 14.1" Monitor.
Ati Radeon 9600 or Above (Which is best for gaming? FireGL or Radeon?)
>= 512 MB ram.
>= 40GB HDD.
Help me!

Go for a T42p. Fire GL are OK for gaming, supposedly Omega Drivers give you a boost of performance by modifying certain registry keys.
T43p have the nasty 2010 error when trying to use newer HDD and also are very noisy.
To me the T42/p line is the best T4x laptop. A nice performance and proven IBM reliability.

Perhaps the low screen resolution (XGA) is part of the problem? You may want to consider getting an SXGA+ model.raket wrote:It's really the edge with what i can live with.

Since he doesn't run Windows, Omega is of little use to him.xtr wrote:Go for a T42p. Fire GL are OK for gaming, supposedly Omega Drivers give you a boost of performance by modifying certain registry keys.

What bother me most is the 32MB 7500 Radeon mobility graphic card. I'm really comfortable with 1024x768. Getting my 22" CRT soonpianowizard wrote:Perhaps the low screen resolution (XGA) is part of the problem? Is there any "normal" (14", 1024x768) T42 around with Ati Radeon 9600?, The P models are way more expensive and i want it as cheap as possible.
