Motherboard swap

There are two things I don't like about my T40, one is the 400FSB and the other is the the video chip. I can't change the 400FSB, but I was thinking of swapping out the motherboad for a T41p or T42p which has the FireGL V5200 video set. My question is will a T41p or T42p motherboard fit in a T40 machine? My guess is that it will, since it's from the same series. Am I correct?

I am pretty sure it should go in just fine. I do know that if you try a T43 motherboard that there are some additional steps that you would need to take. Other members here are more knowledgeable about this.

I do know that a T41P has the FireGL Chip.

Yes, but you will need a different fan (the "long" fan) for the motherboard with the FireGL chip.

You're mistaken: The T41p and T42p both have the FireGL T2 graphic chip with discrete 128MB. The FireGL V5200 belongs to the T60 series.

I'm pretty sure you can do the swap, just get the Long Fan or you'll get a frozen laptop. I don't recommend getting a T43p motherboard. A lot of heat issues and firmware errors.

I have done it before, any T4x motherboard will fit in any T4x case, even 14.1" to 15". You can also use R5x motherboards if you like.
