T43 and Wireless Connections. This is absolutely KILLING me

#1 Post by CRSO » Tue May 22, 2007 7:48 pm

I have had nothing but trouble with this access connections crap.

Here's the story:

I have a Linksys Pre-N router that works perfectly. It has a strong signal and not a problem connecting with any other computer. ANY wifi area I try to connect to, I have trouble. I use both Thinkvantage access connections and also try the windows default connection service.

It WILL always connect but I just have to keep trying and trying and trying and trying.... Literally sometimes about 10-20 times. It is so [censored] frustrating. Once it connects, it's fine.

Any ideas before I throw this thing out the window. I love everything about this notebook except the way it connects.

BTW, I have the latest version of AC and run Vista Ultimate. This also happened when I had XP Pro.

It is a 2687 DTU

Uninstall Access Connections and all the profiles, move on, and leave those of us who like Access Connections to enjoy it. ... JDH

I had many problems getting wireless connections on my T41 (Win XP Pro), didn't matter which router I used, Linksys, DLink, or the one I love and use right now, my Netgear 240 Rangemax which stomps all over my neighbors...and has terrific range.

I have Intel Wireless Pro Wireless 2100 3B card and in order to fix my connections, I had to roll back to a 2005 driver. Since the rollback, I've had 100% success...when I had a recent motherboard change, the repair shop installed all new drivers (and AC) and I had connection problems again...so I rolled back the driver again and everything is copasetic (sp??) now...

I also didn't like the way Access Connections worked so I uninstalled it...

My suggestions:

1. Install another driver, if you can't find another Vista driver maybe even an older Win XP driver may work (at least that is what I would try)...

2. Uninstall Access Connections and just use Windows to control...

3. Don't complain about AC on this forum...there's lots of people who swear by it... 8)

Are you saying that you only have this problem when using AC? Since you also say that you tried the wireless client in Windows as well it sound like that one gave you problems as well, but at the same time you made up your mind that AC is the problem.
If you have problems when running WinXP, Vista, AC or without AC maybe there is a hardware problem and not software problem.

If you have this problem only when using AC i suggest you don't use it. If this problem happen if using AC or not then the problem might be somewhere else.

What kind of wlan adapter do you have?

I use AC on my home T42 and also on my work T43. It works great on both computers over a wide range of access points. I have never really had any issues with it. Maybe you have something other that is causing those issues?

Coreman, you stated it like an adult unlike someone else.... I didn't mean to start on AC. I do like it a lot but like I said, it was being a pain...Thanks for the replys and info guys...

I did uninstall it and use just windows but that was buggy also...

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it again and it seems to work okay now.

Glad to hear you've got it sorted it now. Should you have problems again you might want to try Kubuntu - a linux distribution that installs like a dream (incl. software).
bog standard T41 (2373), 54MBit Wlan, DVD-burner, purring along at 35°C or thereabouts on ArchLinux
