Question for people who used IBM site to buy a Thinkpad recently and had it shipped to a location in the USA.
I ordered a Thinkpad T42 (23735TU) from IBM's site. On the 6th my order status said that the item had shipped and provided me with a UPS tracking number and link to UPS' site.
When I view that tracking number's details I see 52 packages going from Hong Kong to NY via Ontario. I live in Seattle. Something seems wrong, but both IBM and UPS email support seems like automatied "we're sorry you can't figure out how to use the web" type emails. UPS says that's my package (and it will be here Monday) even after I explained what's hapened.
I can and will call IBM support to figure out where exactly *my* computer is because this all seems odd. However, can anyone tell me if they had their package shipped directly to them from overseas rather than from an IBM location in the US?

Where did your Thinkpad ship from?
Trying to track your Thinkpad from mainland China or Hong Kong to it's ultimate destination is almost futile, at best. Especially since it isn't shipped by itself but as part of a multi unit pallet load.
First, you have to remember that the IDL comes into play and your laptop can leave Hong Kong at 3PM and arrive in the US at 11AM on the SAME DAY!
Second, your Thinkpad will have to clear Customs, which can take place at Anchorage, AL or Ontario, CALIFORNIA! As well as other locations. Then the individual laptops are re-labelled for delivery to the purchasers.
Short of a Customs hold on the entire shipment, if UPS says you'll have it Monday, you will.
Regards,
James

To add to what James has said so well, the shipment info you are seeing regarding NY is meaningless. One of the the 52 packages in the bulk shipment is going to NY. Once the bulk shipment is broken up you will see your package details make more sense to where you are as it makes it's way to you.
