It checks Lenovo\System Update folder for sessions and logs, and installs files in the Lenovo folder.

Please give Thinkvantage Systsem Update a try.

I'm trying to install the old hotkey drivers to make fn+f7 function again, but I keep getting the message:

"this program is only for IBM/Lenovo System"

when I try to install the old hotkey driver.

Any ideas?

Blimey, so based on this thread I pulled an older hotkey driver version from the internet which did the job.

http://www.opendrivers.com/freedownload ... nload.html

Had to uninstall the latest hotkey as mentioned above, using the setup.exe from the one I downloaded, requiring 2 restarts, then install the one I downloaded.

Double Blimey!!!

I downloaded Hotkey 7avu12ww.exe (Version 1.23.0601), installed it, and my #$%& Fn+F7 is back!!! Why would Lenovo remove a utility that works from their download site?

Thanks, Paranoid_TP_User! My T42 is back to its regular self now :D

R50 User & Fn+F7 Problems Fixed!!

#35 Post by MadBiker » Tue Dec 25, 2007 8:00 pm

Guys thanks for all the great info. I use an R50 and never should have upgraded to XP SP2 from XP. That upgrade broke several IBM Access items and upgrading from there led to an endless source of frustration (especially the BIOS information that insisted my model was 0123456 instead of 1829-7PE AND Lenovo didn't include that in the list of "must have" updates for my model  ).

Anyway, after getting Fn+F5 to work, I still couldn't get Fn+F7 to bring up the menu. Guess what, for whatever reason I had Hotkey v.2.06.0708 (Vista version) installed instead of 1.31.0610 which was for XP R50. I uninstalled v.2.06.0708 and reinstalled 1.31.0610 and voila!! Presentation Director (v.2.57) now brings up the menu onscreen when I hit Fn+F7.

How I got Hotkey v.2.06.0708, I have no idea (might have been when I was downloading stuff left'n'right w/o knowing what I needed 'cuz my stuuuuupid BIOS could not tell Lenovo what my model info was).

So here's a rundown of my components:
Thinkpad R50
Windows XP2 SP2 (avoid SP2 if you can)
Power Management Driver v.1.43
Hotkeys v.1.31.0610
Presentation Director v.2.57

Hope this is useful for any other frustrated folks out there.

Nobody who uses the internet should avoid SP2. There are too many security holes that are only patched with SP2.

New R61 & Vista, locked fn-f7 function

#37 Post by McMains » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:25 am

I have a brand new R61 (8932CTO), Windows Vista, and enhanced port replicator. All was well until I using the Thinkvantage Productivity Center->Device configuration->Select Display settings to create a new display profile to run when the R61 was docked. In doing so, I saw the option to specify the function of the fn-f7 key and set it to alternate between the default LCD profile and the new profile I had just created - This seemed like a handy feature and, thinking that all I would be doing was controlling the function of the fn+f7 key! What I subsequently discovered is that this also set the function performed when the above Thinkvantage->device config->select Disp settings is selected to the same profile swap - that is, I can no longer get into to manage or edit profiles or change the fn-f7 function! This sounds very similar the problems described in this thread, though with Vista and an R61. I called Lenovo service and they first told me that I had to call in for, and pay for, software service. When I complained, they gave me links for two downloads to try - 7kkd03ww (keyboard customizer utility) and 7rua05ww (Presentation Director) and then wished me "good luck". The readme's, however, indicate I need a later version of the power management driver than what I have installed, a version of a Hotkey Features option that doesn't appear to be installed at all, ...,etc. I'm hesitant to start uninstalling/installing these things for fear of getting into problems even worse than what I have. Is there really no way to just reset this apparently bad configuration choice (registry edit, ??) other than replacing multiple software components! If not, what a terrible design!

Hello! First time poster here.

Apologies in advance for raising an old thread from the dead, but I just wanted to say thank you to you guys for this discussion. I recently got a Thinkpad T42p and was installing all the drivers from the Lenovo webpage. I had the same problem (Fn+F7 not working).

Turns out downgrading to the previous version of Hotkey Features was indeed the solution. The explanation about the fine print (new version 2.x is only supports Vista on T4*) escaped my attention initially.

Thank you!
