Lenovo's "Detect My System" Report Faulty?

#1 Post by TeaRowz » Tue May 29, 2007 8:30 pm

Hi,

I am using a refurbished T40, and on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop, the machine type is listed as 2373-75U. When I use Lenovo's system detector at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo, it reports the type as 2373-6U0.

Which would be correct?

Thank you.

the second one is probably right as it's coming from the BIOS vs the written sticker. They probably changed the motherboard at one point or another and the model you have now is the most similar to what you had before.

You're Hot SHoTT! Thanks again. This helps with the very first question I posted. I did wonder if I'd installed some things from the Lenovo site based on the wrong machine type.

It detected my T41P just fine. I would agree with the other poster who believes the system board was probably changed.

Thanks for the check of your own system, and 'second opinion'.

The 2373-6U0 was based on the 2373-75U, so they are similar. If it troubles you, there is an IBM Maintenance Diskette available that will permit you to change the model number and serial number to match the sticker.

I'd first check both model/serial numbers (assuming the BIOS serial number differs from the sticker) to ensure there is no warranty remaining and then I'd proceed with caution after reading and understanding the directions.

I wouldn't do a thing if there is warranty remaining.

More info is available from this forum. Good luck.

Hi Underclocker,

Thank you for this information. I don't think I am bothered by the model number not matching the sticker. My concern was that when I downloaded software and updates from the Lenovo site, that I may have been using those based on the wrong model number.

This refurbished notebook checks out as being out of warrantee, but IS under a one-year warrantee through Metro Business System who warrantees my purchase from Tiger Direct.

So, I shall leave things as they are as far as the model number.

Thanks again!
