Well, i did it. Finally Registered!

#1 Post by SHoTTa35 » Tue May 29, 2007 8:52 pm

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info i've been able to read on this site to make utilize my investments over the years :)

I started with a Thinkpad T20 then T21 then T23 then got a Dell Latitude C610 (i know i know) then went and got a Thinkpad T41 (2373-AMU) for $500 last year (May/2006) and had it for about a year or so had some hard times and had to sell it, actually sold it for $500 so i was happy bout that. Then 2 months without a computer i felt i was gonna go crazy  . Things got better and now i have the following:

Thinkpad T42 (2374-K5U)
P M 735, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint Reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
That's what the original specs were but i got it with:

WD Scorpio 80GB 5400 RPM 2MB Cache drive
IBM Thinkpad A/B/G Wireless Card
IBM 6c Li-Ion battery (1 cycle)
IBM Port Replicator II
IBM External Ultrabay 2000 drive*
Windows Vista Businesss (plus my XP license COA sticker still good)
Warranty from IBM till 01/2008
Original Box, Manuals, Cables and even a 2GB USB 2.0 Drive.

All totalling: $$650

He wanted $800 for it all but i got him down to that price. So what do you guys think?

* = Oh and as for that Ultrabay thing above, could i put a Ultrabay 2000 DVDRW drive in there and use it with the Port Replicator since the floppy that came with it is removeable?

Thanks

PS - Oh and great forum! :) I love my Thinkpad! Got my girlfriend hooked to mine instead of her Dell Inspiron 6000 (that thing is HUGE!)

it sounds very good.
but you should make sure that thinkpad still have the Warranty from IBM till 01/2008, when the specs were changed to that you descript above.
IBM X31 2672B1J 1.3G/1G/120G/CISCO 350

well the only that was really changed was the HD was upgraded to a bigger one and the Wifi Card to an IBM one so no 1802 errors and added some RAM. I doubt that'll invalidate the warranty? Gosh, i hope not... cuz that's just crazy!

I think you made a fine deal. Of course I am prejudice because I have a very similar T42! :D

I don't expect you will have any warranty problems unless you damage something while upgrading up the ThinkPad. ThinkPads were made to be upgraded by end users. Check the Service Parts List to find the CRU's (Customer Replaceable Units) - parts that end users can replace on their own.

System service parts - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p
