Problems in the long run with T4x series

#1 Post by thaque » Sun Oct 10, 2004 9:41 pm

I was wondering, what sort of problems T4x users face in the long run? hardwarewise, built quality issue etc.?

Veteran T4x users, could you please share your experiences?

I own my T40 now for a year, and honestly, I'm quite disappointed and a bit frustrated. This laptop is not what I expected a high class IBM laptop to be. Compared to my old T20, the build quality of the T40 is inferior: it's flimsy, squeaky, and I often have the fear to break it apart just by lifting it up when it's open (maybe that's the price to pay for a thin laptop). The battery doesn't sit tight, and the lid, when closed, doesn't either. The fan noise, that was reported by many others, was completely ignored by IBM reps, it seems.

So, I lost confidence in the T4x series. Unfortunately, it's still the best machine I could imagine for me, since I use it as my main work machine for several hours per day. The keyboard is still the non-plus-ultra for someone who does lots of typing, and I'm TrackPoint fan. :-)

I'd really love to hear that newer T4x generations are built better, but from what I read all over the Internet, that's not the case.
