Difference - T40 and T41?
What is the difference?
Is the screen the same ? (I'm thinking of buying a faulty one for the screen)

the whole series have interchangeable parts except for a few things. The screens are just that, you just have to buy the right size (14 or 15") and if you're upgrading from XGA to SXGA+ then you also need the right inverter card to match the new screen (if different from your current or yours is broken)
So does this mean I can upgrade from XGA to SXGA+ , but not from 14" to 15"?
Is the inverter card in the lid, or in the base? Can I just swap out the entire lid?

IBM TP T40 | 2GB RAM | 14.1" XGA |

IBM TP T60P | 2GB RAM | 15.4" IPS-SXGA |
120GB | T7200 | (thank you Brent Presley)
100GB 7K100 | | 1.6 Dothan (donated to life-long friend)

You can put an sxga+ lcd onto any base, but to go to a 15" unit, you need to replace the case, drive frame, HDD cover and add an interposer card, plus replace the keyboard, touchpad and probably a couple more parts I'll think of later. It is easire to get a different machine. (Please note that the SXGA machines normally come with better graphics chips, but any board will run the LCD) The inverter is inside the LCD assembly (under the screen bezel at the lower left).
OK, so 14" to 15" swap is better off with a whole 'nother machine.
XGA to SXGA is, at minimum, new lcd & inverter; complete lid assembly
seems to be a better option.
OK, one last question....
Since I have the standard t40 graphics chip (32MB), what will I gain from the XGA to SXGA up-grade? Is the SXGA a sharper lcd?
My eyes are getting older all the time, and anything that gets me better/sharper graphics is welcome!!
Many thanks for all the info so far...
my T40 is buzzing along very nicely indeed...
