T43P dropping wireless connection

#1 Post by newmanm » Sat Jun 02, 2007 7:40 am

my T43P drops it's wireless connection. I have to constantly reconnect.

it almost seems like it times out after a short period of time.
my other laptops do not have this problem.

also, the little icon in the tray will sometimes say there is no connection when there is.

any ideas?

my access connection is an Apple Airport, but I've been using this connection for a couple of years with no problems.

I ran into a similar problem detailed here. Save you a little time, go to the last post...I had to roll my wireless driver back to an older one. I am still using the 2005 driver for my T41.

So I would install an older wireless driver and see if that helps...real easy to do, post back if you don't know how.

dropped wireless fixed by using the Access Connections

#3 Post by newmanm » Wed Jun 06, 2007 3:35 pm

thanks for your reply.

after reading another topic thread about someone else whining about the ThinkVantage Access Connections program I realized I had never used it.

I have no idea what has changed after a year and a half to cause the problem, but since I started using the ThinkVantage program I have had no connection problems. it's been about a week.

could be a fluke, of course.

did you ever get your USB problem solved? that one is a head scratcher. if it worked before it's probably the driver as well.

Try tweaking with the wireless power consumption settings in the Access Connection profile first.
Proxima - X31 (2672-C2U)
Pegasus - X31 (2672-CXU)
Taurus - X24 (2662-MQU)
Nova - X41 Tablet (1869-CSU)

USB is working fine now after a couple of motherboard changes. Back in March my motherboard became intermittent because of cracked solder joints (way too much flex in Thinkpad mechanical design) so I sent in for warranty repair.

The first repair came back with a new motherboard but USB was still not running at 2.0 speed and in fact, it was worse, I couldn't even fool it temporarily into USB 2.0 speed by changing out drivers.

Sent it back in again, IT tech went to pick it up when repair shop said it was fixed and found it wasn't. After another day, got it back.

USB has been working fine now for ~2 months, runs at 2.0 all the time...I'm not jumping up and down because computer ran fine for nearly (2) years before I had problems...just keeping my fingers crossed.

Glad to hear the wireless is working...that problem can be real vexing...
