Placed order for T42 (2378fvu).. need to upgrade memory

#1 Post by daeojkim » Mon Oct 11, 2004 3:01 pm

Thanks to many suggestions in this board and after struggling between SonyZ1 and T42 (2378fvu) I decided to go for T42.

Now I will have to upgrade the memory with a 512MB stick.
Is there a place other than crucial.com where I can get a good deal on this?

Thanks.

Crucial is a good, reputable supplier that I've always had great luck with.

You might also try bensbargains.net - my uncle loves that site.

RAM prices have risen significantly in the past 6 months. Crucial is always a fair price and the parts are top notch.

Stick with them and you will be happy.

Try this:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... e=80059-02

This is probably the cheapest - no tax and free 2-day shipping. Very nice. I ordered mine yesterday.

That's what I got last week. Ordered Monday night, got it Thursday. Ran some stress tests, so far so good! 1024MB makes a BIG difference if you have a lot of programs running simultaneously.

You can always check www.newegg.com. They have pretty good prices on most/all of their stuff.

One thing about crucial.com, and I've seen this every time I go there (not often), that the web price increases if you leave a page, and come back to it later. For example, a week ago I looked for 256 MB SODIMM for a T20. 113.95. Looked around some more, came back, and it was up to 120. I remembered that happening years ago, when I bought other RAM for an IBM machine. Refreshed, etc., still 120. I cleared the cookies (only session cookies) and refreshed, back to 113.95.

Another odd thing, BOTH times I've bought RAM for an IBM machine (picky, or what?) they sent me bad RAM (I use memtest86). It took it to test#7, last MB, to fail, but it failed pretty quick in w2k (bluescreen shutting down, etc.). Both times the second package worked. The first time, it took me two months and 4 calls to get my credit for the returned package. I sure hope that doesn't happen again.
