Hi everyone! I recently got lucky and a friend traded my T42 for his T41p. Among the upgrades over the T42 is a 7200rpm hard drive. I'm using it now and it seems to be working great but it's making this whirring sound, sometimes every few seconds. It's not really that loud so I guess it's tolerable; but I'm starting to worry if this is normal. Does this sound familiar to anyone else that has an older 7200rpm hard drive?
Sorry, I tried searching and couldn't find anything on this topic.

Ok, I searched around on the internet and have come to the conclusion that the spooling (whirring) sound is normal for a 7200rpm hard drive, especially an older one. Sorry, I've never owned a laptop with 7200 rpm. It's kinda getting on my nerves. I guess I'm really sensitive to noise emitted from my laptops.
I was thinking about upgrading the 60gb hard drive. I was leaning towards the Hitachi 7k100 with more memory from reading the posts here but am a little concerned about the noise level. I work with my laptop in fairly quiet places and I'm very sensitive to fan and hd noise.
I've read that Samsung's tend to be a bit more quiet. Western Digital's are also noted for being being better than avg. What do you guys think? Should I stick with the Travelstar(perhaps even downgrade to 5400 rpm?) or try another. Does anyone have experience with hard drives that run really quiet??
Thanks in advance.
