Upgrading T43's X300 ---> X800/X600/X700 ?

#1 Post by j87v » Thu Jun 07, 2007 6:05 am

Hi all ! I'm new to this very helpful forum, i have been in and out of here trying to know the ins and outs of my new T43 :D ... And recently i was wondering whether my T43 can have its X300 Mobile graphics chip upgraded in anyway ??

I feel the system running in it now is quite powerful, and the X300 is simply not good enough :D ... If any one here has any information or know of any links/tutorials hmmm maybe even where to purchase a new graphics chip for the laptop it would be greatly appreciated!

All opinions welcome :D!

By the way my T43 is a 2668-44M

Welcome to the forums! :)

I'll be mean too... you can search for this as it's been talked about a lot. You can't upgrade laptop video cards (well for the most part) as they are integrated into the motherboard. The most you can get is a x400 if you buy a new $300 motherboard with it attached.

The other option you have is to buy the Advanced Dock which is about $200 and then buy a PCI-X card and put in there and run it as such. That'll cost you about $500 for decent upgrades.

If you haven't noticed, these are business machines, not your latest Dell XPS. The IBM = International Business Machines logo should have gave it away :)

OK, now (super perky voice) Welcome and enjoy your stay tho :)

Wondering, are you sure the T43 will work with the Advanced Dock? As far as I know only T6x is supported in the T-series?!

umm yeah oops.. my bad on that one :oops:

I'm not sure about the Advanced Dock (thought they were all compatible) but the Dock II is like an earlier version for that which comes with a PCI slot, not much gaming greatness with that.

Those things cost a lot still tho.

well, i had never heard of the X300 is upgradable, because it is firmly soldered on the motherboard. Unless you change to T43p's motherboard.

Personally, the decent X300 graphic is absolutely enough for me. Word processing, simple graphic editing, email, internet surfing...etc. :)
1. T43 2668-B97 14" SXGA+ 1.5G RAM 9cells
2. X60s 1703-CA3 powerful
