T43 locks up when not in port replicator

I have a T43 that locks up after about 2 minutes of use when I use it off the port replicator. (as an actual "laptop") Once I do a hard reboot and restart it using the port replicator, it works fine. I applied the latest thinkpad software updates, but the problem still exists.
