SXGA screen to replace XGA. Do I need anything else?

#1 Post by gummyworms » Fri Jun 08, 2007 11:39 am

Hello,

I recently purchased a new 14.1" SXGA screen to replace the 14.1" XGA screen in my T40. The eBay listing shows this as the image for the screen I will be getting:

Do I need an inverter or any additional cables to install this? Or it a simple matter of swapping out my screen for this one?

Thanks!
Shawn

well i'm not 100% sure where it is but normally if you're just buying the screen then you'll need an inverter board too. Those are cheap but since you are getting the whole top portion of the screen i'm not sure.

How much is that anyways? i figured it would be cheaper to just buy the actual LCD itself which i think is like $150 or something on ebay?

The whole thing was $120, and it's supposed to have no scratches or pressure points.

It was the cheapest I could find that was 14.1" SXGA, I guess a pretty good deal eh?

Thanks,
Shawn

It's a great deal. And since it came from a T4xp, it has the Bluetooth antenna and clear plates (front and rear) as a bonus. Making it a better deal.

If your screen assembly is good, you can probably sell it for $100 and the deal is even better!!!

If you didn't already have BT, you just have to add the combo CDC card (either BT II or BT III will work for T40, T41, T42 or BT IV for T43) and your good. Figure $30-$40.

Congrats, let us know how it works out.

Welcome to the forums! It is a great deal, and if you can sell your XGA assembly, it becomes an even better deal!

[off topic]
The right hinge on the screen is so thin... It looks unstable to me... is it?

No, it is not unstable. Infact, it is very sturdy. All 14" T4x (and the X3x) have this distinctive design.

Sweet! Clear plates! What exactly are those? lol...

I've been thinking of upgrading my Cisco wireless card to something better. Heard a lot of good things about the Atheros cards, but I can't seem to find the right one on eBay, there seem to be tons of Atheros cards. What model works best? Is there a model that comes with Bluetooth? Is this what you mean by the "combo" model?

Thanks for the great replies,
Shawn

well yeah, i want clear plates too!! LOL :?:

Eitherway, the bluetooth combo is a 56K modem and bluetooth chip.. that's the combo. As for Atheros cards just check on eBay for IBM A/B/G cards and that'll be it, that way you wont get the infamous 1802 error because of an "illegal" card.
