IBM Discount List

#1 Post by LinuxGuy75 » Mon May 24, 2004 4:42 pm

Others have noted the following URLs for discounts for Mastercard and Discover members:

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840

I discovered that if you change the last two digits of the "storeId" in the URL, that the following discount programs are also available.

21 - Mastercard
22 - Verizon
23 - Visa
24 - Gifts in Kind
25 - Bank One/First USA
26 - American Bankers Association
27 - CHASE
28 - Constant Contact
57 - Advanta
58 - Discover

The discounts range from "5 to 15" percent.

That being said, I just called IBM's toll free number over the weekend and ordered a 2373-KUU that lists for $3707 for $3152 (a 15% discount). The conversation went like this:

Me: "Can I get a price quote on a 2373-KUU?"

IBM phone person (with Indian accent): "The list is $3707, but if you order right now, you can have it for $3336."

Me: "What is the MasterCard discount for that laptop?"

IBM: "We don't combine discounts."

Me: "I understand, I'm just wondering if the Mastercard discount is more or less than the price you just quoted me."

IBM: "Let me see if I can get a better price for you."

... 1 min on hold ...

IBM: "I can sell you the laptop for $3152 with free shipping."

(note, there was no indication that this was a Mastercard discount or not)

Me: "Great. I'll buy."

-----------------------

Regarding sales tax. My state (Utah) recentely did a "sale tax use audit" on my company to "make sure we are paying sales tax for things bought online". They reviewed the last 5 years of purchases and are making us pay sales tax (plus interest) on all our past purchases. This seems to be the norm going forward as I've heard similiar stories from friends around the country. If you are a registered *business* there isn't going to be any way to avoid paying sales tax. For personal purchases, you're probably safe for awhile yet.

Excellent. The only problem is that the t42p's are not on IBM's web site anymore. I hope they'll be back soon. Anyone know what's going on?

... that's a [censored] good price. I'm not sure how it compairs to Bill's prices. I have yet to ask. The 2373-KUU is my model of choice.

T42s on IBM website

#4 Post by cooljw » Tue May 25, 2004 1:25 am

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the T42s being removed from IBM's website.

True, they don't seem to be anywhere if you go to www.thinkpad.com. However, they all seem to be listed with accurate pricing at www.ibm.com, select "Notebook Finder". Or click here if you're lazy: http://www.ibm.com/products/us/finder/f ... li&re=home

Is this not the case?

Now that some of T42s are back online, using the discount programs links I provided it looks like all the "higher end" T42s are available at 15% off.

Great information!
Now the question arises, is there some way to evoid the taxes?. There exist taxes for all the States buying from IBM?
