USB Hard Drive Not Recognized In Disk Management

#1 Post by Andman » Sun Jun 10, 2007 2:35 pm

I recently upgraded the hard drive in my T40p to a 100 GB model (thanks to the help on this forum). I took my old drive and placed it in a USB-powered enclosure with the intent to reformat the drive and use it for additional storage. When I connect the USB enclosure to my ThinkPad, the drive shows up as a USB hard drive in device manager, but not in disk management. Disk management shows the main drive in my ThinkPad, the second drive in my docking station, but not the USB connected third drive. Any advice as to how to get the drive recognized would be appreciated.

is there a hard disk password enabled on the disk? You should turn that off first before the drive can be mounted.

USB Hard Drive Not Recognized In Disk Management

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the hard drive password. The old hard drive does have a password assigned and I never thought to delete it when I replaced the drive. I assume I will have to reinstall the old hard drive in my ThinkPad and goe through the BIOS to delete the password. If there is another option to accomplish the deletion of the password please let me know. Thanks
