T23 problem

#1 Post by trayanh » Wed Oct 13, 2004 6:24 pm

Can I install Win XP Pro on T23? Or it is a hardware problem.

My old hard drive failed last month, and I bought a new one from newegg. It is 40G 5400RPM. I installed the system at the end of last month. Everything is fine, but a problem. The system will be very busy, or if I am playing an mp3, it will be discontinued like a damaged tape for a while, then go on. Sometimes, the mouse will stop somewhere. Is this the problem with the harddisk, or some software problem?

XP Pro runs fine on the T23, or at least does on mine.

Sounds like something is running in the background and interrupting the playback stream.

Have you given it the 3 fingered salute and checked what's running in Task Manager?

Possible reason:
1.system failure such as virus, clash,etc;
2.hardware defect such as harddrive's bad track,etc.
solution:
1.reinstall the os with win2000 or others;
2.scandisk the harddrive with perfect tools.

Above is only my personal speculation.
I'm looking forward to the problem's being solved.

Went on a T20 w/40GB Toshiba (newest) and 384 MB. Worked well stock (from an MSDN dual-boot XP CD), but the updated software is useful. I put on SP2.

My only problem is my Socket wifi card (CF w/PCMCIA adapter) drops its WPA connection after 5-15 minutes, using the Symbol (Socket/Symbol use the same hardware) Feb2004 driver and WZC. Bummer. $60 for a new wifi card, or I can keep pulling out and pushing the card right back in. Can anyone recommend a good PCCard Wifi that does WPA?

Not related: I tried to read the original 12 GB disk via a USB enclosure setup but it doesn't get recognized. It works fine when I put it back in the T20. Is this the hidden partition that's causing the total failure of recognition?

BG: The enclosure tests out fine with the Toshiba in it. The 12 GB Hitachi is 5V/500mA and the Toshiba is 5V/1A. I used an external power supply for the 5V in, rather than relying on USB power, even though I did double up the ports so 2 x 500 mA is available there. Something about that 12 GB.
